Policy Provisions

Nursing Student Conduct Code Policy

School of Nursing students are expected to adhere to the Student Conduct Code in the current Cumberland University Student Handbook 2014-2015. The conduct code addresses areas of academic and non-academic misconduct and disciplinary procedures.


Class Conduct

· Cell phones are to be in the “silent” mode.  If there is a family emergency and you may need to be reached, see the instructor before class.  

· Dress appropriately (i.e., no pajamas).  

· As adults, we must all accept responsibility for our actions.  

· Be on time for class.

· Be on time for exams.

· In the event the student is talking during class, the instructor will excuse the student from the room.




Classroom and Lab Conduct

School of Nursing Faculty are responsible for determining when a student is unsafe to him/herself or others in the classroom. The student will be required to leave the classroom or lab accompanied by the instructor.  Other  students wait for the instructor in the classroom or lab. E&A Solutions, Inc. 615-804-0506 (cell phone ) will be called immediately for an onsite drug screen. Student will not be allowed to drive home but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.


If alcohol or other drugs are suspected, the student will be asked to undergo immediate laboratory testing.  Positive laboratory results will result in immediate dismissal of the student from the School of Nursing.  Refusal to submit to laboratory testing will also result in immediate dismissal from the School of Nursing.  A student believed to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs will be required to leave the SON.


Within 24 hours of the incident, the Faculty member responsible for the student will submit a written report to the Dean.  The Dean will then notify the Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Faculty member, Course Coordinator and Dean will schedule a conference with the student to be held within forty-eight (48) hours of the incident   At that time, the student will have the opportunity to explain or defend his/her behavior.
