Supervisors assist in the work of mentoring student teachers in their placements. Cumberland University Supervisors conduct in-school observations of student teacher candidate performance, and on-line evaluations of the lessons observed.  Data from the observations are to be entered into an on-line data base. Supervisors may also conduct an orientation visit with the cooperating teacher during the first week of each placement.

Supervisors should have demonstrated experience or experience in the content area of the student teachers they supervise. The exception to this is the CFE, who may be required to supervise students from content areas in which he or she has no specific training or experience . Supervisors are expected to:

·	visit with each cooperating teacher at the beginning of each placement;

·	assess lesson plans for each observation (2);

·	observe student teachers according to the coordinator’s plan (2);

·	assist the student teacher with the evidence of student learning assessment project;

·	act as liaison between student teacher and school, or university if necessary;

·	enter all data and report to seminar instructors and CFE.

“Remote Supervisors” are occasionally hired to supervise student teachers who by some circumstance are completing student teaching over 1.5 hours from campus. Remote Supervisors are expected  to conduct all responsibilities of a supervisor.

·	Baccalaureate degree in Education or related field from an accredited institution of higher education;

·	At least 5 years of recent teaching experience (10 or more years of teaching experience will be considered if applicant left teaching over 5 years ago);

·	Valid Driver's license and good driving record;

·	Experience working with diverse student populations.

Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of due diligence background check and verification of credentials and driving record.

·	Master’s, Doctorate, ABD, or advanced graduate work;

·	3 years of school leadership or administrative experience (e.g., principal, dean, coordinator);

·	Experience in the supervision of student teachers, teacher education practicum students, or teachers;

·	College/university level teaching experience.

Each supervisor is given credit for a 3-hour course for each group of four or five student teachers they directly oversee. If the CFE chooses to supervise student teachers, they should be given credit for a third course (over and above those associated with being the CFE and teaching seminar).

Six total visits per candidate per semester are expected; visits are not to exceed 10 per student teacher per semester. When enrollment is not evenly divisible by five, the share will be divided at the discretion of the CFE and the supervisor(s) is reimbursed on a per-visit basis pro-rated from the adjunct pay as such: 5 students, 6 visits per student per semester = 30 visits; Adjunct pay/30 = cost per visit. (Currently at $1,950 per course, the per-visit compensation is $65). Supervisors also are reimbursed for travel.

Seminar instructors conduct bi-weekly 90-minute seminars for student teaching candidates. Instructors will meet School of Education requirements for course content as communicated through Course Assessment Documentation Plans and past seminar syllabi. Seminar instructors are also expected to carry a load of 5-7 student teacher supervisees*. If not part of the regular faculty, seminar instructors will be asked to locate an in-school site within a regional cluster of student teaching placements for the delivery of seminars.

The CFE is expected to have had experience with school aged populations in instructional settings.

* Seminar Instructors are not paid per-visit as supervisors are unless they exceed 7 student teacher supervisees.
