Tennessee Association of Student Nurses (TASN)

Tennessee Association of Student Nurses (TASN) is a pre-professional national organization for nursing majors. The Tennessee Student Nurse Association (TSNA) is the state constituent of the National Student Nurses Association.  Both Lower Division and Upper Division students are eligible for membership. Membership and involvement are encouraged by Nursing Faculty and provide nursing students with opportunities to network with peers and with nursing practitioners.  Participating students will be prepared for involvement in the nursing professional organization after graduation.

 

Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society Xi Alpha Chapter

Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing was founded in 1922 by six nursing students at Indiana University. The founders chose the name from the initials of the Greek words Storga, Tharos, and Tima, meaning love, courage, and honor.

 

Sigma Theta Tau International is the second largest nursing organization in the world. The Society exists to recognize superior achievements in nursing, encourage leadership development, foster high nursing standards and strengthen commitment to the ideals of the profession.

 

Currently, there are over 469 chapters and in 86 countries. Chapters are located on college and university campuses across the U.S., Canada, Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Pakistan, South Korea, and Taiwan. Sixty percent of members hold masters or doctoral degrees.

 

In 2011 the Jeanette C. Rudy School of Nursing became part of the XI Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International.  To date , 77 Cumberland University students have been inducted into the Xi Alpha Chapter. Membership is by invitation only following Sigma Theta Tau International guidelines.
