Cumberland University is committed to encouraging academic excellence and engaging students in a positive learning environment. Student attendance is paramount to achieving scholastic success. Attendance is checked from the first class meeting and, so late registrants will have some absences accrued when they first meet a class.
In the case of a legitimate excused absence (athletic participation, personal illness, death in the family, sick child, and others at the discretion of the instructor) from the class, the student has the right and responsibility to make up all class work missed. If an absence is the result of an activity by another class or university organization, the sponsor of the activity will provide a detailed memorandum to the Faculty and the Vice President for Academic Affairs prior to the event. If approved by the School Dean and/or Vice President for Academic Affairs, missed class work by the student may also be made up.
